On September 9, 2023, the Giuvlipen theater company invites you to the free theater workshop "Consent and healing in the theater", supported by the multidisciplinary artist and Giuvlipen co-founder, Mihaela Drăgan. The workshop is held as part of the Kathe Akana x Giuvlipen International Roma Theater Festival - We share her story, between 11am-3pm, at the State Jewish Theatre.
What does the future of theater look like? How can we make theater an inclusive space where everyone feels safe? What are the artistic practices that can make the theater a progressive environment?
Mihaela Drăgan will discuss her artistic practice as a Roma feminist theater creator, ethics and principles that can make theater a safer place for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
The artist will examine the institutional framework that laid the foundations for the creation of an independent Roma theater company, themes such as cultural appropriation, the representation and self-representation of minorities in contemporary theater, the responsibility of artists as opinion makers and other recurring topics in the sphere of political theater.
Together with the participants, the artist aims to create a manifesto that pleads for the need for theater to reform and that will support theater artists in building consensual and ethical work practices.
